Address Translation FAQs
- What is the correct order for an English Taiwan address?
- English addresses are reversed from Chinese, written smallest to largest: house number → lane → section → road → district → city → country. For example, "台北市中正區忠孝東路一段 1 號" becomes "No. 1, Sec. 1, Zhongxiao E. Rd., Zhongzheng Dist., Taipei City, Taiwan (R.O.C.)".
- Why do I need to add TAIWAN (R.O.C.)?
- The last line of an international mail item must be the destination country, so the sender's postal service can route it via the correct international lane. TAIWAN (R.O.C.) is the format recommended by Chunghwa Post, though TAIWAN alone is also accepted.
- Will this match the official Chunghwa Post translation?
- We use the same County/Township and Road/Street Chinese-English Reference Files that Chunghwa Post publishes, so road-level translations are identical. For special or newly-built addresses not yet in the reference file, double-checking with the Chunghwa Post website is recommended.
- Which Romanization system is used for road names?
- The Chunghwa Post road reference file mixes Tongyong Pinyin and Hanyu Pinyin, and preserves the customary spellings each city has used for years to stay consistent with existing street signs, business cards, and documents. This has been the de facto industry standard for over 20 years.
- Why is part of my address not translated?
- If a road or street does not appear in the Chunghwa Post reference file (usually newly-built community roads or unnamed alleys), the system keeps the original Chinese. In that case, either follow the spelling of neighboring streets, or re-check the address on the Chunghwa Post website.
